Arteta discloses Arsene Wenger's advice on the title race

Mikel Arteta has disclosed seeking guidance from the iconic former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, as the Gunners strive to overcome Manchester City in the closing stages of the Premier League title race.

Last season, Arsenal secured the second position, but unfortunately, they set an undesirable record by leading the league for the longest duration without clinching the championship. This was primarily attributed to a late downturn in form during April and May, resulting in them winning merely three out of their last nine matches.

Wenger, renowned for his success in securing three Premier League titles during a prosperous period for the club, has become a valuable source of guidance for Arteta. The Arsenal manager openly acknowledged seeking advice from the Frenchman regarding the challenges faced in the latter stages of the season.

"I have engaged in several conversations with him. We discussed various aspects of their triumphs and the intricacies of the final stages," Arteta revealed in anticipation of the crucial north London derby on Sunday.

Arteta further emphasized the enduring impact of Wenger's wisdom, reflecting on their previous interactions during his tenure as the club's captain from 2011 to 2016. "His insights remain ingrained in my mental repository," Arteta added, highlighting the lasting influence of their discussions.

"During this period of the season, the ultimate goal is to secure a victory in the game. It can be achieved through different strategies, as seen in their past title wins and close game victories. The focus is always on the small details and margins that make a difference. The question remains: who will rise to the occasion and ensure success?"

Wenger, the former Arsenal manager, holds the distinction of being the last one to lead the team to a league title. This achievement was accomplished during the 2003/04 season when his 'Invincibles' squad remained undefeated throughout 38 games. Although the Gunners secured a second-place finish the following year and displayed a strong challenge in 2007/08, it marked the beginning of a prolonged period of struggle for the club as the Wenger era gradually faded away.

Prior to his triumph in 2003/04, Wenger had previously clinched titles as part of a Premier League/FA Cup double in 1997/98 and 2001/02. Additionally, he tasted success in France's Division 1, now known as Ligue 1, with Monaco in the 1987/88 season.
